It’s no lie: Minimalist gift ideas are a struggle. Today, I want to point out that there are several things that minimalists just can’t get enough of. I’m talking about the folks who avoid clutter like the plague, don’t like shopping or stuff, and are happier with less. Want to know what on earth of get them???
The trick to knowing what your favorite minimalist needs and loves most, is thinking about why, in fact, do they like minimalism? Below, I’ve suggested a few reasons people are more minimalist, a lot of them have to do with having time for the things they most love.
Identify what motivates your minimalist friend, and then, load up on these goodies I’ve listed below.
#1 Snuggles and affection
Kids dogs, spouses… there are a lot of things deserving of some affection and serious snuggle-time. Most minimalists would always accept a little more love. Make time for this in whatever way you can, and watch your minimalist light-up. Movie nights, bonfires, lazy Sundays, and slow mornings… you get the idea.
#2 Books on a kindle, or on audio
I know these are technically “things,” but put them in a category with deep thoughts, adventure, stories that warm the heart, or new perspectives. Without taking up an ounce of floor space, minimalists will indulge in these whenever the mood strikes.
#3 Cozy and comfort
Are they minimalist because they just don’t want to work so hard maintaining everything and they desire more time to relax? If so, you’ll want to think about comfortable options. While a person can have too many blankets, pillows, comfy socks, or any combination of the above, there is something to be said for cozy and comfortable. If you can find a way to make your favorite minimalist more cozy or comfortable, without the burden of too much extra stuff, you’ll be golden. This upgrades that will replace the old – maybe the blanket you find is the best ever, so they can donate their other blanket and upgrade to the deluxe version. Or, maybe they do need some amazing socks, because their current ones just aren’t special enough? Or, maybe you hook them up with a whole lot of firewood – you won’t hear any complaints. This idea pairs very nicely with #1, #2, and #3 by the way, so keep reading if you want to give your minimalist more cozy and comfortable.

#4 Yummy food and drink
Chocolate, wine, coffee, tea, pizza, a great restaurant, homemade goodies… the options are endless. Choose a true favorite, and these types of gifts are a treat that minimalists will gladly “make room” for!
#5 Beauty
It is amazing the impact that beauty has on a life. If your minimalist LOVES the aesthetic of a clean room, then consider a gift of beauty. It’s the small things like flowers, sunny days, or serene walks that light up our lives, and create moments we remember and cherish. You can go simple like flowers, or bigger like a hiking trip. Consider a picture of something beautiful, or a saying that you know they love. Consider a home improvement that they have been begging for (or a gift card to a home improvement store, for the rest of you). Add beauty to a minimalist’s life, and everyone around them will benefit from the glow.
#6 Laughter and fun
Was your friend just too stressed with all the stuff before she purged it all? Laughter and fun are too often overlooked as the best gifts in the world. Think: night-out, stand-up comedy, a trip to a movie theater, or even a hilarious game. What makes your minimalist laugh out loud?

#7 Kindness
If your minimalist likes to focus most on the big picture of the world, not the daily grind, then consider an act of kindness. Kindness makes the world go round, and your minimalist knows that kindness is much more worthy of focus than laundry. Anything thoughtful that is not a “thing” will warm the heart of a minimalist and be valued more than any trinket. Think about what your favorite minimalist most needs that is not a thing. Is it a night out? You can babysit. Is it meal prep? A gym partner? A phone call? A kind letter? Doing charitable work together?
#8 Time
Freeing up extra time is the best part of becoming more minimal. Less cleaning, arranging, organizing, and fretting means more TIME. It’s beautiful. And, it’s such great fuel, that minimalists start looking for any way that they can get more and more time. Can you help your minimalist friend free up more time to do the things that are most important to them? Usually this looks like stepping up to take on some of their responsibilities.
#9 Friends
Another reason that minimalists enjoy their new lifestyle is the increased opportunity to see friends (it comes with having more time, and not having to worry whether the house is a mess). Enjoy some quality time with your favorite minimalist!
#10 Convenience
C’mon. Who doesn’t love convenience? Clutter = inconvenient. Gift cards for meals and services come immediately to mind, but anything that can make life easier for a minimalist is certain to be a big hit! Consider a scrapbook-by-text subscription like Qeepsake, or a grocery delivery service.
So, tell me: What is it that you can’t get enough of? What are your best minimalist gift ideas? I’d love to hear in the comments below.
Wishing you all the simple things,
