When we choose to homeschool, it’s not “just” homeschooling for most of us. In addition to learning stuff from some books, what we’re really after is freedom, and excellence – on some level that is meaningful to our families. Freedom to do what is best and live the life we imagine; and the opportunity to offer our children better. That means that when we choose homeschool subjects, we aren’t “just” choosing what to learn. How can we cover all of our bases, pursue all of our passions, AND keep from feeling completely overwhelmed? In this episode, we’re walking through the Minimalist Homeschooling mindset of focus to keep our homeschooling subjects simple and valuable.

Choosing subjects can be overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be.

Less really is MORE, even when you choose homeschool subjects!

When we choose to focus on fewer subjects at once in our homeschool, we cut down on a lot of clutter without missing out. Here’s how:

1. We choose the most important things.

2. As a result, we have the time, space, and margin to dive deep into those subjects. We engage. Conversely, with a lot of subjects, we feel spread thin; there is a lot of competition for our time and attention (and that of our children, too). So, we do the most important things really well.

3. We finish quickly. Without all the distractions and juggling, we learn a lot in a shorter amount of time.

4. We reassess our subjects, and move on to the next great thing!

There is no “missing out,” when we do “less.” Instead, we offer a truly rich education that is meaningful to the whole family. Plus, we all save a little sanity 😉.
